Cozy Bungalows in Leppävirta Town

History

The Leppis bungalows were built by Huurre’s founder, Counselor Paavo V. Suominen (born 1920, died 2022), in 1981 for Konnusmaja and in 1983 for Unnukkamaja.

In the 1970s, Huurre Oy established operations in Leppävirta to expand the production of portable construction site cabins into a separate business. The originally separate company was initially named Huurre Ureta Oy. It was later known as Huurre Master and Huurre Rakennustuoteteollisuus.

Trade with the Soviet Union was considered important in the 1970s, and the expansion of product market channels was managed under the name Retatorg Oy from Leppävirta. This simply means a trading house engaged in trade between the Soviet Union and Finland. Around this time, in 1981, the adjacent Konnusmaja was built, which was then the largest prefabricated log house by Honkarakenne. The house was owned for a few years by the Russian-German businessman Ortman. Since the cabin was for his private use, another cabin, Unnukkamaja, was needed. The cabins are nearly identical.

A particularly scenic location was found for the cabins. To build in the area, significant earthworks were required. The rock in front of Unnukkamaja was named Dino Sairanen, after the construction manager Sairanen who oversaw the building of the house. The bronze statue “Dreaming Mermaid” on the lake shore in front of Unnukkamaja was brought from China in the 1980s and was created by sculptor Vu Jia Song.
